The thread engagement length of all fastening elements must be at least 6.5 threads (for M12x1.5), 7.5 threads (for M14x1.5 and M12x1.25), or 9 threads (for M14x1.25).
However, many people assume that just a few turns are sufficient to securely hold a bolt in place. This is misleading. For a wheel bolt to achieve a force-fit connection, at least 6.5 turns should be possible. Only then is the desired safety condition reached.
